If some body can do other test for this small example (to confirm if there is bugs in the model builder); once you import the pressure junction by model builder just connect them with pressure pipe and add outfall, pump and tank (as you design forcemain) and run the model (apply any data for the added elements).

The issue is some elevation for Invert (start) and Invert (Stop) will be shown in the Flextable zero and the same pipe shows elevation in the properties as displayed in the screenshot below, also that error reflected i the profile.

Is that something called bug and need to be fixed, or wrong in the using the feature? the other issue is if you try to retype the elevation of move elements and re-run the model the problem will be fixed.

One more question; why in the properties "Set Invert to Start/Stop" is gray? it means not editable, I guess this should be editable to change True to false??

The excel sheet for junctions is attached, Please give a try to help in fix this issue or might be mistake of procedure!!!

Forum Post: PondPack ICPM

I have a fairly complex Interconnected Pond Model with multiple ICPM nodes all converging to a single pond node with an outfall. There are SCS subareas to all of the pond nodes, with calculated Tc for each subarea. Elevation areas for all the ponds with SWM structures at outlet structure link.

There are very large distances between the ponds that are connected, upwards of a mile at its largest. How does pond pack take this "lag time" between ponds into account because each subarea to the individual ponds have Tc's but I have found an obvious way to account for the distance between the SWM structure of one upstream pond to the pond of the next down stream node.

Using version 10.0 by the way.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Currently, changes made to Chart Options settings in places other than graphing (like profiles and system head curve) are not saved. This is the expected behavior in the current implementation of the Chart Options. We acknowledge and understand the inconvenience this can sometimes cause and our developers are currently investigating ways to improve this in future versions. The changes needed to support persistence of these chart options are not trivial and will require extensive testing. We appreciate your feedback and hope to have improvements for you in a future version.

Thanks Scott,

Understood what you explained and thank you, but regardless of calculation, the issue is in model builder when you map the Elevation with the excel elevation; it does taken and shown in the properties and displayed while it is not in the flextable.

what about other question which was " One more question; why in the properties "Set Invert to Start/Stop" is gray? it means not editable, I guess this should be editable to change True to false??"

Forum Post: Average velocity method

1- In the calculation option in StormCad there are four options in the Average velocity method:

  • Actual Uniform Flow Velocity (default)
  • Full Flow Velocity
  • Simple Average Velocity
  • Weighted Average Velocity

What is the difference between those four options? and when each method should be applied?.

2- Can the scenario run with two global storm? i.e. if the project has areas to be designed with 5 years storm (IDF); and other areas to be designed with 2 years storm (IDF) but both cases are in one scenario (one run), is that could be done by stormcad? and how?

Set up time controls to turn the pumps off at 2 and back on at 8 using time-based controls.

There may be some parts of the system that are "disconnected" during this time, indicating that they are empty. If this happens, you may need to start a "recovery" run at 8 to look at refill using tanks that are virtually empty as the initial condiiton.

Gabriela,

Tom, gave you the basic concept how to do it and nkg2 suggested things to consider.

Here is another basic steps:

Components > Controls
Create couple of controls to turn pump on and pump off at certain time.
If Clock Time >= 2 PM AND Clock Time <= 8 PM Pump-1 status Off
If Clock Time >8 PM and Clock Time < 2 PM Pump-1 status On

With the above control your pump -1 will stay Off from 2 to 8 PM and turn back on outside the interval.

This link will help you understand/crate the controls in the model

Note: Above steps are just off the top of my head

Gabriela,

As Mohamad suggested it depends on the location (availability of water), facility density, building material, occupance, hydrants availability, residency type etc. and different city/municipality has different requirements. Insurance company has their own requirements. No one in the forum will suggest you the exact number as this depends on your criterion.

AWWA M31 manual will give you some idea about fire flow requirements

This link will show you the TOC of the manual.

Forum Post: Re: Scenarios to improve low pressures

Gabriela,

You can and should only change the things that differs from the ground (actual system). If a pump is ON in the system and you are modeling it as OFF then your hydraulic model is not a true representation of your system.

If pressure is low then try to find the causes behind a low pressure and one of the causes (or a combination) will be your answer. You need to wear a 'detective hat' and your will find your answer.

KB 83942 list some of the items that you can check when you have a different result than expected. Click "KB (Use IE)" in my signature (or copy the link and use Internet Explorer) then search for the given number.

Here are some of things to check:
1) Elevation of nodes, tanks, reservoirs
2) Pump on/off status. (When you collected data, were there any pump status recorded? How many pumps were ON/OFF) If this data is not collected then we are comparing apples to oranges...
3) Valve status/settings. If PRV (for e.g.) was active during the field data collection then make sure you have the same settings in your model.
4) Tank level. This is another critical information. If this data was not recorded during field data collection then we are introducing big guessing factor
5) Pipe connectivity. Are you confident that your pipes are connected as they should be?
6) Demand. What was the demand during the field data collection. This has significant impact on pressures along with #2, #4.
7) Were instruments calibrated when data were collected?

You need to have a 'conduit' between the ponds if you want to model the hydrograph routing that you describe. On the conduit you can set a 'routing method' (e.g. Modified Puls). The drawback is that PondPack can only do hydrologic routing, so reverse flows and backwater effects aren't handled comprehensively as they are in, say , CivilStorm.

You may wish to discuss this further with tech support (appsnet.bentley.com/.../addcall.aspx).

The pressure pipe invert can't be different to the node invert. That's why you can't specify a different value. It's different to a gravity pipe which can enter a manhole at a higher elevation. I guess we shouldn't show the "Set Invert to Start/Stop" field at all - that would avoid some confusion.

You can set the calculation option 'Is EPS Snapshot' to TRUE, then change the 'Start Time' to the time you want to analyze. WaterCAD will then use the appropriate demands, patterns and controls for that time of the day.

For the control to turn the pump on after 8 PM and before 2, you'll need to use the OR operator. Or, consider adding an ELSE to the other control:

If Clock Time >= 2 PM AND Clock Time <= 8 PM Pump-1 status Off ELSE Pump-1 status On.

If you're new to WaterCAD/WaterGEMS, I would recommend following the quick start lessons included in the Help documentation. We also have training courses available (see your Bentley Account Manager.)

As a side note, a transient analysis may be warranted when simulating a pump power failure. This can be done using our specialized HAMMER product (training strongly recommended).

I concur - make the tank and adjacent pipe inactive in the scenario where the tank is offline.

Using SEWERGEMS V8 (SELECTSeries 2).

I'd like to change the Ia = 0.2S parameter to use something else than 20% of the Storage (S).

Can I do so? Plus, can I simply override it so I can specify the Initial Abstraction without a % (e.g. 5 mm).

Thanks,

Forum Post: Using Common FlexTables for Various Users and Projects

In PondPack, how do you share Flextables among multiple users? I know there that xml tables can be copied from other users, but which xml files hold custom information?

i see that the following xml files updated after I updated my shared flextables in PondPack and then existed the program. Which should be shared with other users

  • ExternalTools.xml
  • FlexTables.xml
  • PredefinedFlexTables.xml
  • SharedQueries.xml
  • SharedWorkspaces.xml

Is there a way to import custom Flextables that were created by another user, while still retaining your own custom flextables?

Forum Post: Running Water Age Scenario in WaterGEMS, how to present in ArcMAP?

Hi all,

I have recently started this modelling job and my predecessor used to create water age maps with the results from WaterGEMS using ArcMAP.

I have successfully modelled our cities water age.

Somehow he used to get the resultant table from WaterGEMS and link it to our GIS software. I am wondering if someone could suggest a way so as i can color code all my pipes within my GIS to be colored depending on water age.

One thing I have worked out, is that I can get my ArcMAP to point to the .mdb databasse, and i have been able to show all my pipes in my GIS straight out of the model, but the only attributes the pipes have are: ElementTypeId, ElementID. There is nothing like "results" or something, that would be ideal as thats what i need.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Forum Post: Re: WaterCAD Saving Profile Line Thickness/Colour etc. ?

Thanks Scott, although there is some interesting history to this.

I think the developers wanted to support it in V8 XM and onwards, but maybe just haven't quite got around to implementing it:

  • All the chart options for Profile line styles etc.are actually being saved by WaterCAD, they are in the WTG file saved under the <ProfileAttributeElement> XML branches like this: Steema.TeeChart.ChartD.Zoom.Allow.Panning.Allow.CustomChartRect.Panel.Brush.Color.Legend.Alignment&#x13...
  • There appears to have been an intent to make the Profile Chart Options persistent (or why would they have bothered storing the Profile Chart options in the WTG file?):
  • Some of the chart options for Profile are actually persistent (although the large majority are not). For instance if you Turn On and resize the Chart Panel Shadow through the Chart Options.........this does get written out to the WTG XML, and is retained as a Profile setting.

The current graphing technology in V8i started waaaaay back in V6.0 when GeoGrapher was incorporated into WaterCAD. Before that, you used Haestad Methods own graphing tools (and that was still the case in V6.0, you could either make a HM Graph, OR a GeoGrapher Graph). The graphing technology itself, however is/was from a 3rd party vendor (I believe it is/was provided by Steema Software?)

The really interesting thing was, previously in V6.0, all chart options changed by the user got saved! The actual Steema graph definition binary object was saved into the MDB file in the HMIGraph table under then then WaterCAD data schema. Any and all chart options were stored in this one binary object.

V8 XM took perhaps a retrograde step, a design decision for V7.0 -> V8 XM was made to move these user interface settings out of the MDB, and into the XML format WTG file. This I think is where the trouble started..........because the chart settings now had to be stored in a Bentley XML text format, not in a Steema TeeChart binary object.

So the interesting situation was, whereas in V7.0 and previous versions all WaterCAD chart options got saved and were persistent. However for V8 XM, that capability got lost and users were now losing the chart option settings. If I had to guess, it may have been because Bentley had to write an "interpreter" that read/writes back and forth from the Steema TeeChart chart settings API to the Bentley XML file.

As there are probably 100s of chart options, writing the "interpreter" interface to read/write from the WTG XML is not so much as being a hard thing to do, but probably laborious in having to map all of the Steema API chart options to corresponding chart option settings in the XML file.

As we use Profiles a lot (Graphs lots more), we are definitely keen to see this XML chart options read/write component finished off. ;-)
