Problem Description
When I detach a model in any of the Haestad products for Microstation I am left with outlines of the shapes of the modeling elements. Why is this? Is this expected behavior?
Reason
In order to simply the explanation for this wiki I'm going to be refering to StormCAD for Microstation, but this applies to all the Haestad products in the Microstation environment.
When you create a model in StormCAD in the Microstation environment you need to create a DGN or have a DGN file to load the StormCAD for Microstation model. This is because the .DGN file is Microstation's native file format that it works with and it allows StormCAD to interact with Microstation and take advatange of all the tools that it offers. When you create your model elements in StormCAD they are really being drawn to the StormCAD files (.STSW and .STSW.MDB files or .STC and .STC.MDB files), the DGN file, and these files are linked together. When you use the detach option (StormCAD > Project > Detach) them you are breaking the connection between the StormCAD model files from the DGN file, thus leaving the white geometric outlines on the DGN file. These are just shapes on the DGN with no StormCAD properties at this point and if you want to get rid of them all you need to do is select them and delete them.
