Applies To Product(s): WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, CivilStorm, StormCAD, PondPack, SewerCAD, HAMMER, WaterCAD, CulvertMaster, FlowMaster Version(s): 08.11.02.XX + Original Author: Shahzab Bukhari, Bentley Technical Support Group Overview This TechNote should help you understand how the ProjectWise integration works and what you need to do in order to integrate ProjectWise with the Hydraulics and Hydrology products. What is ProjectWise? ProjectWise is a suite of software from Bentley Systems aimed at helping manage, find, and share CAD and geospatial content, project data, and documents. Enabling ProjectWise Integration ProjectWise integration must be enabled before the Haestad product can directly interact with ProjectWise. Note: If you are using the 32-bit version of ProjectWise, you will need to use the 32-bit version of the Haestad product. You cannot use the 64-bit version of the Haestad product with the 32-bit version of ProjectWise. NOTE : As of August, 2018, CulvertMaster, FlowMaster and PondPack do not yet support the CONNECT Edition of ProjectWise (even 10.00.00.XX). See: ProjectWise CONNECT Edition Compatibility Browse to C:\ProgramData\Bentley\(product name)\10\ (or "8" for V8i) and open ProjectWiseIntegrationLocalOptions.xml in text editor. Next, f ind the line that sets the PWDIR variable ( PWDIR="") and change it so that it refers to the directory where a supported version of the ProjectWise Explorer is installed, such as PWDIR="C:\Program Files (X86)\Bentley\ProjectWise\". If you have a 64-bit operating system, also set PWDIR64 to the path for ProjectWise, which is typically C:\Program Files\Bentley\ProjectWise For the MicroStation platform, you must enable the ProjectWise iDesktop integration for Microstation when installing the ProjectWise Explorer client software. You can also Change the ProjectWise Explorer installation to enable this from the Windows Control Panel. The ArcGIS platform will automatically detect an installed ProjectWise Explorer. The AutoCAD platform does not currently support ProjectWise integration. What is Captive Environment? The term captive environment refers to the state of integration when the user cannot save documents to or open documents from the local file system. They are “captive” or forced to work in the ProjectWise environment. Captive Environment Setup for Users Open ProjectWiseIntegrationLocalOptions.xml in text editor (see above for the location). Locate the following string below on this text file and change UseCaptiveEnvironment =“true” and save it. It will read: *** Make sure to close out of Projectwise and the hydraulics and hydrology programs to see this change. Captive Environment Setup for Administrators Open ProjectWiseIntegrationLocalOptions.xml in text editor. It’s the same file we used for the program's integration with ProjectWise and it is located on your local drive C:\Program Files\Bentley\ProjectWise\ ProjectWiseIntegrationLocalOptions.xml Locate the following string below on this text file and change UseCaptiveEnvironment =“true” and save it *** Make sure to close out of Projectwise and the hydraulics and hydrology program to see this change. Spatial Reference System (SRS) • The SRS is a standard textual name for a coordinate system or a projection, designated by various national and international standards bodies • The primary use of the project's SRS is to create correct spatial locations when a managing a project in the ProjectWise Integration Server's spatial management system. • The SRS name comes from the internal list of spatial reference systems that ProjectWise Spatial maintains on the ProjectWise server and is also known as the "key name." To determine the SRS key name, the administrator should browse the coordinate system dictionary in the ProjectWise administrator tool (under the Coordinate Systems node of the datasource), and add the desired coordinate system to the datasource. For example, the key name for an SRS for latitude/longitude is LL84, and the key name for the Maryland State Plane NAD 83 Feet SRS is MD83F. Single Sign-on and Auto-login support · Single Windows login allow you to login each time you open Microstation or any other platform · Auto-login gives you option to remember the data source next time you log into this application Document creation wizards No Wizard icon — Selecting No Wizard icon and clicking Set as Default means that the standard document creation dialog will open instead of the Advanced Document Creation Wizard. So when No Wizard is set, the Create Document dialog opens when you select Document > New > Document, and the Copy Document dialog opens when you select Document > Copy To. Also, clicking OK in the Create Multiple dialog will automatically create the specified number of documents (with no files attached), and copying or moving documents in ProjectWise Explorer using the drag and drop method will automatically perform the copy or move. Selecting No Wizard here also ensures that if you attempt to create a new document in an integrated application, the application will open whatever ProjectWise dialog it normally uses to create new ProjectWise documents. Advanced Wizard icon — Selecting Advanced Wizard and clicking Set as Default means that the Advanced Document Creation Wizard will be used when creating documents. (The Advanced Document Creation Wizard Properties dialog controls which document creation actions will invoke the Advanced Document Creation Wizard.) Selecting Advanced Wizard here also ensures that if you attempt to create a new document in an integrated application, the application will open the Advanced Document Creation Wizard. Clear Default / Set as Default — Clicking the Clear Default button signifies that you do not want to commit to a default document creation method. When you click Clear Default and the --no default wizard-- message appears in the dialog, this means that the Select a Wizard dialog will open whenever you select Document > New > Document, whenever you create multiple documents using the Create Multiple dialog , and whenever you copy or move documents using the drag and drop method. Clicking the Set as Default button sets whatever method (icon) you select from the list as the default method for creating documents. Setting --no default wizard-- here also ensures that if you attempt to create a new document in an integrated application, the application will open the Select a Wizard dialog. About — When the Advanced Wizard icon is selected, clicking the About button opens an information box that provides — information — about the benefits of the Advanced Document Creation Wizard. Properties — Opens the Advanced Document Creation Wizard Properties dialog , which is used to specify which document creation actions will invoke the Advanced Document Creation Wizard, and which pages on the wizard will be hidden from the user. Saving a model into ProjectWise Be sure to save your model into ProjectWise (so it saves as a file set) as opposed to drag/dropping the files manually. See more here: Models not opening properly from ProjectWise when manually uploaded via drag / drop See Also What is the workflow for using ProjectWise with the MicroStation integrated interface and the Haestad product line? Hello Michael, I was able to compute the model you sent without a problem, using what appears to be the same version that you are using (10.01.01.04). Both scenarios balance. The "Domestic" scenario balances within 238 trials, and I do see a lot of oscillation in the Intra-Trial Status Details tab of the calculation summary, pointing to the pipes adjacent to GPVs. Try adding a 0,0 entry to your GPV headloss curve, with 0.001 ft for the second row's head. With this, the model balances in only 4 trials for me. This is suggested in the following article: How can I model a backflow preventer?

Applies To Product(s): WaterGEMS, HAMMER, WaterCAD Version(s): V8i, CONNECT Edition Area: Modeling Original Author: Mark Pachlhofer, Bentley Technical Support Group Problem How can I model a backflow preventer or Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) Valve? Solution Option 1 If a single headloss value can be assumed, this can be modeled using a PBV that creates a specified head loss across the valve followed in line with a check valve. Make sure the orientation of the adjacent pipe is correct and then choose "True" for "has check valve?" in the pipe properties. These are often used to model components that cannot easily be modeled using a standard minor loss element. This valve does not automatically check flow and will actually boost the pressure in the direction of reverse flow to achieve a downstream hydraulic grade that is lower than the upstream grade by the set amount. Option 2 If the headloss characteristics are more complex, you can model this with a General Purpose Valve (GPV) and a check valve on the adjacent pipe. In the GPV properties, enter a table of flow versus headloss. As with the PBV configuration above, make sure the orientation of the adjacent pipe is correct and then choose "True" for "Has check valve?" in the pipe properties. If a certain amount of head is required to push open a closed check valve, it may be desirable to include some special entries in the GPV curve: 0,0 and 0.001,X, with ‘X' being the head value above which the valve can reopen. See image below.

Hello Benjamin, I assume you are using PondPack. Catchments in PondPack only accept rainfall from your storm events. You cannot direct flow from a pond, onto a catchment. If this catchment represents channel flow, you can model this with a conduit. The order would be Pond > Pond Outlet Entrance > Pond Outlet Link > junction > conduit > outfall. The conduit in this case would be configured with the channel shape. You mentioned this is a no-volume pond. In that case, another alternative would be to connect all the catchments at the top of the screenshot, to a junction element, which would connect to an outfall via a conduit. You could configure the conduit geometry to model the shape of the channel that the flow passes through. If this does not help, please elaborate on what you are trying to model.

Product(s): WaterGEMS, WaterCAD Version(s): Varies Area: Modeling Application and Benefits To maintain a minimum upstream and maximum downstream pressure or hydraulic grade. This valve may be helpful when there is an upstream water source and a pump at a high elevation that distributes to a network at a lower elevation. When an upstream pump shuts off, this valve would prevent the upstream network from emptying. PRVs and PSVs can be modeled to use either hydraulic grade or pressure settings. Example of this Valve Cla-Val Model 92-01/692-01 Combination Pressure Reducing and Pressure Sustaining Valve Example of this Valve The following example model requires version V8i SELECTseries 6 of either WaterGEMS, WaterCAD, or HAMMER. communities.bentley.com/.../combination-PRV-PSV-example.zip Video communities.bentley.com/.../Combination-PRV-PSV-Example.mp4 The above video is simulating a pump shut down. Stage 1: As the upstream hydraulic grade decreases to 20ft (PSV's minimum hydraulic grade setting), the PRV gradually opens to maintain a downstream hydraulic grade of 10 ft (PRV's maximum hydraulic grade setting). Stage 2: As the downstream hydraulic grade gradually decreases, the PSV gradually closes to maintain an upstream hydraulic grade of 20ft (PSV's minimum hydraulic grade setting). NOTE: If you are using HAMMER, a transient analysis will not permit three pipes connected to the PSV or PRV. In this case, you will need to insert (split pipe with) an additional node on both sides of the valves (very close to the valve) and connect the bypass pipe to that node instead of connecting directly to the valve. Hello Edwin, Could you please confirm if you had i-model engine setup installed separately at the time of installation? What is the version of SewerGEMS that you are using? How can I find my registration / license information and version / build number for my Hydraulics and Hydrology products? Please try to compact database by going to Tools>Database utilities>Compact database (For V8i versions) and File> Database utilities>Compact database (For Connect edition versions) Also go to file>Import SewerGEMS database>select the database and then try exporting to i-model to see if that works. Google translated: Google Traducido Hola Edwin, ¿Podría confirmar si tenía la configuración del motor i-model instalada por separado en el momento de la instalación? ¿Cuál es la versión de SewerGEMS que estás usando? Hello Moustafa, Could you please explain further which results you are copying from Hammer with negative signs? I tried exporting the results from flex table and also from transients results viewer , selected all data and Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V in excel, it did have negative signs when copied to excel as well. Please elaborate if the question is not understood correctly, with the help of screenshots. Export data to an Excel spreadsheet

Hello Shankar, There is tool in SewerGEMS Connect Edition called catchment delineation, which creates catchments for you automatically using catch basins as outflow node with the help of Terrain model. To use this tool you need terrain model, apply that in SewerGEMS and then use trace downstream and catchment delineation tool. Read more about catchment delineation using link mentioned below. Using Catchment Delineation If you have predefined catchment area and you want to divide that into multiple areas then you can use above mentioned method, if you are not happy with the results, then you can use Microstation or AutoCAD integrated mode of SewerGEMS and then create catchments using CAD tools which will save your time than doing it in standalone mode.

Forum Post: RE: Calculation with tidal effect

Hi Craig, I have used CivilStorm since one year on and off, so I am not very experienced in the application of the software and to use the forum. I am sorry for that. I use MS with CivilStorm (Connect Edition) because of the existing project structure. The system does exist and I would like to calculat the overflow volume depending on the tidal/water level. In a second step I would like to integrate the existing pump stations to drain the area (outfall will be closed). I thought the results were not correct because when I increased the water leve I got nearly the same outputs. But your were right. The time -curve was incorrect. Maybe I made I mistake by copy and paste the values into the software. I did the correction and now my curve looks right. On your and my curves I see a negativ outflow. Is the reason the empty storm water network by t = 0? Do I have to define the water-level in the stormwater network for the calculation start? I will check the links you have recommended and I thank you for the great help.

Hello Moustafa, If you are exporting data from the Transient Analysis Detailed report, the following link has the general steps for this: How to view extended node transient results for hydropneumatic tanks, pumps, or turbines . The top part of this is about using the Extended Node Data tab. The next section includes the workflow for versions previous to when this feature was available. The negative sign should be included. In addition to these steps or the steps that Sushma provided, you may want to check the number formatting in Excel. You can choose different formatting for negative numbers, such as displaying negative numbers in parentheses or with a different color. Regards, Scott

Forum Post: I am unable to achieve my sprinkler fire flow and I am not sure why.

I have a model with hydrants and sprinkler demands. The hydrants have a minimum psi requirement of 20 psi and the sprinklers 60psi. These are the results I am getting: For some reason, none of the sprinklers are passing but they have very high pressures. I am assuming something is incorrect with the model. Another element to this is that I have a 2" domestic line that is over 2500 feet long. When I run my fire scenario, I have to deactivate this 2" line because it fails all of my fire flow needs for the hydrants and sprinklers. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

How many sprinklers are you opening at once? What is the exact wording of the standard that you are not passing? I assume you are modeling the sprinklers using emitters. What emitter coefficient (with units) are you using?

I am using the SCS method for the unit hydrographs in a Civilstorm and there are 2 things I would like to change. The first is the length of the storms. Is it possible to use the 6 hr SCS storm types? Second, the increment time of the storm is .1 hours. Is it possible to make the increment time less than .1 hours? The increment time is too large for my model and results in the following error message. "The difference between calculated peak flow and interpolated peak flow 21.4 % is greater than 1.5 %. Computed peak flow= 0.02 cfs Interp. peak flow= 0.01 cfs. Output increment for this catchment may be too large."
