Applies To Product(s): WaterGEMS, WaterCAD, SewerGEMS, SewerCAD, CivilStorm, HAMMER Version(s): V8i, CONNECT Edition Area: Modeling Original Author: Scott Kampa, Bentley Technical Support Group Problem When scrolling through the Time Browser, the color coding and annotations do not change. However, the values in the Properties display or the element FlexTables do change. Solution This may be due to auto-refresh being turned off. Go to the View menu and make sure that the Auto-Refresh option has a check mark beside it. When Auto-Refresh is checked, element symbology (color coding and annotations) should change as you step through the Time Browser. CONNECT Edition: V8i : If that doesn't help, try deleting the model's associated . DWH file (which will be regenerated upon reopening the model), or try moving just the starter file ( .WTG for WaterGEMS/WaterCAD, .STSW for the storm and sewer products) and the database file ( .SQLITE ) to a new folder location and recompute the model.

Solution Typically a water model is not suitable for 3D viewing as the 3D view would appear quite flat. In the meantime, you can export a model to the Bentley i-model format, with the "Publish project elements in 3D" option checked. The i-model can then be viewed in another Bentley application such as Bentley View or MicroStation, in 3D. See link below for more on i-models. Wiki Page: Civil3D integration (Pipe network import/export)

How can Civil3D pipe network data be exchanged? Problem number:31617 Solution Civil3D integration works just like plain vanilla AutoCAD integration. When opening the Haestad product "...for AutoCAD Civil3D" shortcut, you will be able to utilize the AutoCAD user interface and drawing tools with your Haestad product. Civil3D-specific tools such as profiling with pipe networks would need to rely on data exchange via the standard LandXML format per the below. Note : Civil3D tools tends to be more meaningful in a storm or sewer context, so LandXML data exchange is not currently available in WaterGEMS, WaterCAD or HAMMER. You can however export a water model to ESRI Shapefile format , which can be consumed by Civil3D. You could also export the water model to i-model format and view it in 3D in a Bentley application like MicroStation. Opening a Civil3D Pipe Network in the Haestad Product 1) From Civil3D, export the pipe network to LandXML format 2) In the Haestad product, Choose File > Import > LandXML, then select the file If any change is made in the Haestad product, you will need to re-export to LandXML in order for Civil3D to pick up on the change. From the File menu, chose Export > LandXML Opening a Haestad model in Civil3D 1) From the Haestad product, choose File > Export > LandXML, then select the location and name, 2) In Civil3D, import the LandXML file. If any change is made in Civil3D, you will need to re-export to LandXML file and import it back into the Haestad product. Note that the LandXML file only contains information supported by the LandXML format, so some Haestad model data may be lost. Forum Post: RE: EDITTING A WATER CAD FILE INSIDE AUTOCAD CIVIL 3D
Hello Mulongo, When working in WaterGEMS for AutoCAD Civil 3D, profiles utilize the native WaterGEMS profiling tools. However, you can still make changes to the WaterGEMS model. When moving the cell that represents a WaterGEMS node element, it will move that element in the WaterGEMS model database as well as in the AutoCAD drawing. Typically with water distribution, users aren't as interested in profiles. Profiles tend to be more meaningful with storm and sewer models, which is why SewerGEMS, SewerCAD, StormCAD and CivilStorm can exchange data with Civil3D via the LandXML standard, where the native Civil3D profiling tools can be used. As Steve mentioned, you could export the water model to Shapefile format . You could also export the water model to our i-model format, and view it in 3D in MicroStation: Can WaterGEMS/CAD or HAMMER display elements in 3D? I've added some notes about this to the following wiki article: Civil3D integration (Pipe network import/export)

Forum Post: RE: Please help me clarify
Hello Doan, 1. The difference in results is likely related to a relative inaccuracy in the results when using the larger time step, owing to the length adjustments that occur in such cases. This is explained in this link . I am not sure what link you are referencing when you say that a smaller time step is not necessarily correct, but if you this reference, I can take a look at it. However, typically the smaller time steps tend to be more accurate compared to larger time steps. 2. It is true that air valves assume that the air pocket remains at the air pocket remains right at the air valve itself. They tend provide protection at the local high points. For this reason, you may want to use them along with hydropneumatic tanks or surge tanks. The model you provide has a hydropneumatic tank and a surge tank. However, there are no air valves in the model. If you have a copy of the model with the air valves in place, we could take a look at this. However, since the negative pressure do decrease, this is a sign of improvement. Try increasing the size of the inflow orifice to see if that has an impact on the pressure at the air valve. If you are not already, you may want to consider a triple-acting air valve as well. More information on air valves can be found here . 3. The maximum hydraulic grade that I see in the time history graph for PS-14:J-8 is about 73 meters, which corresponds to the same value in the surge tank and in the results section of the properties for J-8. Perhaps you are working in a different copy of the model. If you do see a discrepancy in the maximum value reported in the properties and what is reported in the Transient Analysis Detailed Report, this may be because the values are reported at time steps that are between the reporting time step. Right now the report period for all report points to set to 10, and the report period for the surge tank is set to 10. If you adjust these values, the time history graph and detailed reports may better reflect the maximum values. To do this, first open the transient calculation options in the properties display. Find the property field Report Points and change this to a smaller value. Setting this to 1 would allow you to see all time steps. Next, open the surge tank properties and find the property field Report Points. Change this value to a smaller number as well. Then compute the model again. If you chose to report all time steps, the minimum and maximum values should be reported as the same. Regards, Scott

Forum Post: Hammer - Check Valve Characteristics - Reverse Velocity vs Deceleration
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could offer an advice regarding modeling a check valve. I am modeling a water supply system with pumps transporting flow from the balance tank to the reservoir. When I model a pump trip scenario, the minimum pressure drops to vacuum. A valve supplier suggested using Val-Matic Silent Check Valve operating as follows: - When flow occurs, the disc is lifted off the seat to allow forward flow. - When pump is stopped, the spring is in the valve forces the disc closed before the flow reverses, providing silent closure. I have a Dynamic Characteristics of Valve Curve – Reverse Velocity vs. Deceleration. Is there an option in Bentley Hammer to enter this characteristics data? Or how would be the best to model this valve? Thank you, Marketa

Forum Post: RE: Hammer - Check Valve Characteristics - Reverse Velocity vs Deceleration
Hello Marketa, You can model check valve element separately, below is technote which explains how to model check valve element in Hammer in detail. Modeling Reference - Check Valves However Dynamic Characteristics of Valve Curve – Reverse Velocity vs. Deceleration cannot be entered for a check valve at the moment in Hammer, we are working on to include this Hammer and there is enhancement (#202422) logged for this. You can utilize the new slow-closing feature of the check valve nodal element. This allows you to specify a check valve closure time and opening time (over which the check valve is assumed to close linearly.) With this feature, you would set different closing times, run the model, then review the results and look at the flow through the valve as it shuts. You might need to iterate a couple of times until the reverse flow corresponds to your reverse velocity for the valve. This behavior is explained in detail below, please go through it. Hi Mohammad, I did some testing in WaterCAD integrated with AutoCAD 2018. The snap is working fine for midpoint, nearest, perpendicular, intersection etc. You can try the following options; 1. In snap settings of AutoCAD check on all snap settings (Under Object Snap Tab > Select All) 2. In the same Tab ensure that the "Object Snap On" and "Object Snap Tracking On" options are checked. 3. Under the "Snap and Grid" tab, reduce the "Snap X spacing". The "Snap Y spacing" will automatically take the same value if "Equal X & Y spacing is checked on" Hope this helps.

Forum Post: A third scenario is not displayed in a Custom Report Transient Results Time History Graph in HAMMER.
My Custom Report displays 2 scenarios in graphs successfully, but when adding a third scenario, I am unable to see that scenario. I've confirmed the results do exist by looking at time history graphs for the third scenario individually. I am also able to create a Time History graph for all three scenarios successfully, just not through the Custom Report option. These threads seem similar, but my issue also does not display the results, as opposed to just the legend. https://communities.bentley.com/products/hydraulics___hydrology/w/hydraulics_and_hydrology__wiki/23403/the-legend-at-the-bottom-of-a-graph-is-missing-elements https://communities.bentley.com/products/hydraulics___hydrology/f/haestad-hydraulics-and-hydrology-forum/155882/graph-legend-does-not-appear-when-generating-custom-report Thanks for the help! -Joel

Forum Post: RE: A third scenario is not displayed in a Custom Report Transient Results Time History Graph in HAMMER.
Hello Joel, I see that you also created a service request. I will work through the forum for now, so that other users might benefit. I tried this in a sample model and I was able to see all three scenarios in the custom report. The first thing I would suggest is upgrading to the latest version of HAMMER. The steps to do this can be found at this link . Another thing to try is to maybe isolate the main model files from the supporting and report files. If there is an issue with the report files, this might impact what you are seeing. To do this, close the model (you can leave HAMMER open) and then browse to where the model is saved. Create a new folder and copy just the .wtg and .wtg.sqlite files to the new folder. Then open the model from new folder location and see if the issue still occurs. If that doesn't help, it will be useful to see a copy of the model files. To send this, you can use the steps in this link: Sharing Hydraulic Model files on the Haestad forum . Regards, Scott
