Forum Post: RE: Surge Anticipator Valve (SAV): No discharge flow reported after minimum threshold pressure reached.

Hello Mike, Are you getting a user notification that says that the pressure threshold was reached and the amount of flow produced, similar to the messages below? "Threshold pressure reached at time step 271. Please note that the SAV element does not model air inflow." "The total discharge through surge anticipator valve and/or surge relief valve = 0.948 m³." If so, double-check the flow units. Perhaps the flow is relatively small for the units that are used. Another thing you can to is look at a time history graph of pressure and flow for the SAV, which should show the pressure over time along with the flow during the time period. A quick check of a sample model shows that this is working as expected. The following TechNote has some information on surge valves in general: communities.bentley.com/.../modeling-reference-_2D00_-surge-valves If you are getting messages about the threshold pressure being reached, but the time history graph shows no flow, I will likely need to see copy of the model to look into this further. There are two options for sharing your model files on Communities. If you would like the files to be visible to other members, compress the files into a zip file and upload them as an attachment using the ‘Advanced Reply editor’ before posting. If your data is confidential, you can follow the instructions in the link below to send it to us via Bentley Sharefile. Files uploaded to Sharefile can only be viewed by Bentley. communities.bentley.com/.../7079.be-communities-secure-file-upload If you upload the model to Sharefile, please post here with the name of the file so that we know it is available. Regards, Scott

"'LandXML Pipe Network' field does not contain data." Steps to Resolve In order for the models to convert to the LandXML format, the "LandXML Pipe Network" property field should be filled in. If there is no data available for this, the user can open the element FlexTables and copy the Label field in the LandXML Pipe Network field. Once this is done, the model will export without issue.

Hey Scott, yes, I get a message saying the pressure threshold has been reached. This is also confirmed by looking at the minimum pressure at the SAV. When plotting flow vs. time, no flow is registered. However, when I run the SAV to operate on 'Time' rather than 'Pressure Threshold' and run the simulation, I get flow through the SAV. But it appears that the valve closes quickly (causing unreasonable pressure spike) after the valve has stayed opened for the identified time. If you think the best thing to do is for me to upload file, I will do so. Thanks for your help, Mike

Applies To Product(s): Bentley WaterGEMS, Bentley SewerGEMS, Bentley HAMMER Version(s): 08.11.XX.XX Environment: N/A Area: Original Author: Mark Pachlhofer, Bentley Technical Support Group Problem I've integrated WaterGEMS with ArcGIS and I have the correct versions, but I don't see the WaterGEMS menu. Why? Solution In ArcMap, right click in the gray area at the top-right corner. You should see several WaterGEMS entries available to add as toolbars. At a minimum, make sure the "WaterGEMS layout toolbar" is selected. If you do not see the WaterGEMS menus, close out of WaterGEMS and ArcGIS and open the Control Panel. From there, choose "Programs and Features" and highlight WaterGEMS. Select "Repair." After this completes, reopen WaterGEMS for ArcGIS. The menus should be available. Hello Mike, Yes, please upload the model files. The steps to do so can be found in the previous post. It will be easier to troubleshoot the issue with the model file. Regards, Scott

No, there was not any especial reason to make a Junction as Trace Source. I was analyzing the model to compare Water Quality between nodes and suddenly found out the paradoxical curiously. Now please answer the exact question: Can make a Junction as Trace Source or not? If yes, why this values appears? If not, why the software permit to select a Junction as Trace Source? Sim

Arc Map can changes an Excel file into *.shp too directly, but my question is about 'Customer Meter'. This element was not in SS4. If you want to do assigning above explained, how can be done with SS4? Sim

I have marked network in water Gems by using Model builder. That was existing pipeline data in shape-file formats. Now I'm facing problem of extra junction point which i don't want I.e. J1 to J2 is 400mm of 50m length pipe and J2 to J3 is also 400mm of 150m pipe. So now i want to remove J2 and need J1 to J3 400mm of 200m pipe. Is any tricks to remove directly? In This model lots of extra junction are exist and that i don't want.

Forum Post: Hammer and hydropneumatic tank

Hello guys, I need your kind input for the inquiries below; 1. If we finished a hydraulic model on waterCad and want to check if there will be water hammer in pipelines to make any protection system or not? i.e. (how we know that we want water hammer protection system in any pipeline) 2. What is the advantage and disadvantage of using “with bladder” hydropneumatic tank and using “without a bladder” hydropneumatic tank? And when to use the first tank and the second tank ? 3. if we run a steady state model, and we want to simulate the transient simulation, how to know the size of hydropneumatic tank is sufficient or not and also the volume of air OR we must run the EPS to know expected behavior of the tank. Best regards, Hesham

Hello guys, Could we use Air Valves as an anti-hammer device which could reduce the effect of water-hammer? Is there any international standard stating this point, please send us this standard or the name and sector mentioning this. Regards, Hesham

hi , when i make a profile in the sewercad , it doesn't show if there is a branch or not . the only way to know is that i have to look at the plan . is there any method to show the name of the the branch and its level on the sewer cad profile ? for example :- as shown in pic no 1 :- there is the plan and i want to draw a profile for CO 7 , CO 8 and as shown manhole no 1/3/2 there is a branch "co 6 " that connected to it , and as well for the MN1/3/1 there is "co 5 " is connected to it . and as shown in pic no 2 :- the profile doesn't show the branches at MH 1/3/2 and MH 1/3/1 , and the only way to know is looking at the plan again. what i want to do is like the pic no 3 :- i want the profile to show that there is a branch at the MH 1/3/2 and 1/3/1 and their invert levels . is that possible ?

Hello, In Bentley WaterGEMS SS5, could I back skeletonized model into Original model. I consider that when main pipe calibrated precise roughness..., back to original model will reflect more accuracy, especially for fire hydrant tests, then it could be continuously developed. Thanks in Advance!

That would depend upon you have data in what format. If you have shapefiles, you can use Loadbuilder, if you have spreadsheets then you may use Modelbuilder method to import the demands. Also you can directly enter the data in the demand control center manually. Below are the links to the technotes , which you may find helpful to preoceed. communities.bentley.com/.../3100.importing-demands-from-a-spreadsheet-tn communities.bentley.com/.../10862.how-do-each-of-the-loadbuilder-methods-work communities.bentley.com/.../20695.how-can-i-add-nodes-to-the-demand-control-center-so-that-the-demands-can-be-inputted You may want to go through the Quick Start Lessons, more information can be found in the help documentation.

The steps to take depend on what type and format your data is in and how you would like to distribute it. If you have a single lump sum demand, see this article: communities.bentley.com/.../18771.distributing-a-lump-sum-demand-over-a-large-area If your billing meter/demand data is in shapefile format, take a look at the different methods available in Loadbuilder: communities.bentley.com/.../19934.how-does-the-unit-line-loadbuilder-method-work If your information is in a database or spreadsheet format and you can match model elements by label, use Modelbuilder: communities.bentley.com/.../3100.importing-demands-from-a-spreadsheet-tn If this does not help, please elaborate on what you're trying to do and what format your data is in.

It is an interesting suggestion, but my previous comments still apply as a response. Traditional calibration approaches may be more feasible.
