I'm a little confused as to what you mean when you say that you have "the elevations marked on a different layer as text". Do you mean that you only have a text representation of the elevations? Does the DXF file you have contain the elevations as contours or points? If it does we have a tool called TREX (Tools TRex) that is a terrain extraction tool, which can take .dxf files contours or points, shapefiles, Bentley DTM files, and a few other file types to automatically input the elevations into your nodes. In order to use this tool you'll need to make sure the files line up correctly though. If you're using standalone you can check this by adding the file that contains your elevations as a background file. This will let you visually see if they line up or not. If they don't you might have to take advantage of using our product in the AutoCAD, Microstation, or ArcGIS platform to line up the files spatially on the same coordinate system and then try TRex again.
